GENERAL
INFORMATION

The
Waltham Track Club is an officially registered club with the U.S.
Track and Field Association (the national governing body for the
sport of running). The Club is a program designed to offer instruction
and competition in track and field, cross-country, road racing
and marathon running. Club programs are open to participants of
all abilities from in and around the Waltham area (you do not
have to be a Waltham resident to become a member). There are no
tryouts or talent requirements. Beginners are welcome! The Club's
philosophy for all participants, regardless of ability, is to
emphasize individual achievement, - on being the best that one
can, rather than on just trying to be the best.
There
are currently two divisions of the Waltham Track Club: a youth
program, open to boys and girls, ages 8-14 and an open/masters
program for females, ages 15 and older. The youth track and field
program is held in the from April through July and an indoor program
from December through February. A youth cross-country program
is offered in the fall. The open/masters program is conducted
year round.
Most
Club activities are held at the J.Lee Gould Track and Field Facility
located at Leary Field, Bacon St., Waltham, MA. Cross-country
training is held on the Waltham High School home cross-country
course at Waltham High School on Lexington St. Our
indoor track program is held at the Kennedy Middle School on Lexington
St.
The
Club competes in events sanctioned by the United States Track
and Field Association at the local, regional and national levels.
All members are encouraged to become official members of the USATFNE
Association, as well (see www.usatfne.org).
Our
Club offers year round programs for youth, high school, college
and adult members.
Track
& Field and Road Race training is held throughout the year.
Focused programs are offered in Cross Country (August-December);
Indoor Track (November-March-training indoors at the Kennedy Middle
School and other area facilities); Special Strength & Conditioning(July-August).

design to help members reach the next level of their development
through specialize training with certified coaches. This
30 year program has helped to produce more than 100 state finalists,

captains. Our competition teams are a dominate force
at NE and Regional Championships and have gained a national reputation,
having won National titles in cross country and track & field
and by consistently qualifying and scoring members at National
competitions.
JR.
TEAM - The Youth Program is open to boys and girls,
ages 8-14, from in and around the Waltham area. Practices and

Dare To Dream Travel Team, which
is open to all members and focuses on Jr. Olympic competitions..
Practices and meets are conducted by age group and sex, (8-10),
(11-12), (13-14). Age groups are determined by member's
age as of December 31 of the current year. Each child chooses
the event(s) and the competitions he/she wishes to participate
in. Ribbons are awarded to everyone in all events. Performance
charts are maintained and certificates are presented at the annual
Award's Night based on the number of personal records achieved
by each member. Emphasis is placed on "being the best
that one can be" rather than on just "being the best". The main
purpose of the youth program is to develop self-esteem. The youth
program attracts more than 300 kids each year.
A Cross-Country program is held from September through November
and involves training members to race distances of 1.1 to 2.4
miles through wooded trails and grass fields. As with the
