Region 1 Junior Olympics Update

We hope that everyone enjoyed the Region 1 Jr O experience this past weekend. As always with these events, there are many stories now to be told and remembered.  Race day is always chaotic, especially when our Club has so many competing in race after race – we never really have the opportunity to talk with everyone after their races, but we do hope all members walked away glad that they attended – cold & wet, but happy.  The conditions were somewhat challenging, but we felt that everyone handled their reactions extremely well.  Our performances may have been impacted some, but our competitive spirit definitely was not.  The intensity of the competition definitely was not impacted, as there were many exciting and very close races throughout the day, often with 10-12 runners finishing within 1-2 seconds of each other.  The density of talent was very obvious, race after race.  Thank goodness for chip timing.  At Nationals, it’ll be more like 20-30 kids finishing within seconds of each other.  The excitement and the intensity never gets old!

Now is the time for members to reflect a bit on what they need to do to improve for next year and what we need to do as a Club to improve next year.  We had many members and several teams that came so so close this year – it gives us a clear goal to shoot for.  Thanks to all for helping to make this season one of our best ever!!  This was our largest XC Program ever, with 120 members, but it became obvious to many as to how further we need to grow if want to compete equally with many of the other Clubs in our Association – many of whom entered 2-3 teams in each race at the NE meet.  But we are still the best overall Club as far as being a “team” is concerned  - cause we have the best kids and the best parents!!    and the best coaches!!!

Our Winter Program starts in 2 weeks and that has also continued to grow – we had to cut off registrations at 220 and have continued to take in several more names each day to be put on a wait list.

===========================================

Anyone who still needs to pay for entry fees or for our team dinner, please send such along ASAP.  Race fees for last week’s NE meet was $6 and yesterday’s fee was $15.  Team dinner was $20.   The Club covered 20% of the dinner cost and all of the gratuity and all of the race fee service charges.  Any fees still owed should be sent to 88 Russell St., Waltham, MA02453.
